The boxer rebellion in china
At Midnight on 30 June 1997, Hong Kong reverted to Chinese control. Hong Kong had been a British Crown colony since 1842 - the year when the British seized the island after a three year war with China. That event was the beginning of a long period of foreign intervention in the affairs of China from a variety of European powers and from Japan and the United States. The Boxer Rebellion was one of a series of Chinese rebellions against such foreign influence in their affairs.
