Rationale
The Preliminary Modern History course is structured to provide students with opportunities to investigate the role of key features, issues and individuals, groups, events and concepts from the eighteenth century to the present using methods of historical inquiry. This process allows students to investigate significant historiographical issues such as; primary and secondary sources available, the usefulness and reliability of these sources and the different perspectives and interpretations offered by the sources. These skills enable students to highlight the importance of history and how it has shaped the world today.
The case study helps students to adopt an investigative approach to history which allows for knowledge and skills to be developed and to gain experience of working as historians.
Students learn about:
· Political, economic, social and technological features of the selected case study
· Forces for change that emerged in the period of the selected case study
· The nature of the political, social, economic and technological change that occurred in the period of the selected case study
· The impact of change on the society or period of the selected case study

Prior Knowledge
The Preliminary Course is structured to provide students with skills and knowledge on different times in history. It is not necessary for students to have any prior knowledge of the selected case study. Students will adopt all required historical skills and knowledge and will learn how to investigate history.
